GLOBULAR AT THE WOMB GALLERY

Collaborative art making along the open road. Natalie Wetzel (G'NAT Productions and sculptress extraordinaire) had already completed works for Damn the Witch Siren and Mr. Gnome when I joined her in Tennessee for her G'NAT Art Tour. She had constructed a fitting celestial 'Space Lion Cub' suit that she wore during Spaceface's hometown performance in Memphis. Also joining us for construction was Daniel Huffman (New Fumes). After the faces were spaced, our next stop was OKC to work with Brainwasher. While in OKC we were thrilled to be fortunate enough to stay with Wayne Coyne. After seeing the sculpture we were creating in his egg shower (deformed wearable masses of tape and cellophane), he asked us to meet with him at The Womb Gallery to discuss constructing an installation for their stage. Our project was dubbed "Globular" and was constructed using only cellophane, tape, balloons, and insulation materials. We spent the month in a makeshift form of a residency, working at the Womb and living at Wayne's. In the end, the stage was named "The Galactic Uterus" and loomed over Julianna Barwick, Fox Glove, and provided an environment for a Skating Polly video. It was a spectacular example of the wondrous outcomes when artists work together through different mediums. The next stop for us will be SXSW to work on the newest project: Glittoris. To be involved, contact Natalie at n.wetzel.artist @ gmail.com. -Erika Mugglin

G'NAT Art Tour Underway

So I had this idea to do an art tour, inspired by all my musically inclined friends who get to tour, I suppose. You may ask, "Wut?" Well, as a multi media sculptor, lover of music, nomadic creature, and a bit of a ham, I had this notion to collaborate with musicians that I love: making costumes, stage and/or video props, packing them up in my truck, and then traveling across the US to deliver and document some awesome kinda happenings with each of them on stage, and/or through photography and video. I giggled when I thought of doing this, which is how I gauge the quality of my ideas. Therefore, the G'NAT Art Tour has been born! Somewhat commercial in nature, I am devoting my G'NAT Productions activities to this endeavor, with a page on the website devoted to the tour. Studio production of sculptures for my awesome band collaborators FLASHCLASH, mr. Gnome, Damn the Witch Siren, Spaceface, and Chris Unck and the Black Roses are underway! Tour dates and merch will be revealed asap!

SPRING PEEPER, THE EGG LAYING FROG WOMAN

Newest member of the G'NAT creatures is this lovely frogwoman, shown here with her eggs. She has plans to appear in a music video and in a photo shoot with another character in the desert. I am particularly proud of her woven green thong umbilical chord.

G'NAT, Between the Episodes

G'NAT Mag is gaining a reputation for "Wonderful graphic design and an eclectic yet groomed approach to subject matter." -Gin Funk of MarsMoth. Jono Bentley Sturt of Hatchback, my Co-Editor in Chief, is a bearded man of wonder. Because of his fantastic beard, and because I love giving my art body hair, we are working on our second issue, the September "Beard Fashion" Episode 02. This episode will include, in addition to the broad interpretation of "beard" aesthetic, interviews with the Cleveland-based psych rock band Mr. Gnome and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is coincidentally exhibiting the Grateful Dead, with front man Jerry Garcia as a super bearded icon."End the war, grow your hair!" -John and Yoko. You can choose what war you're fighting: mind, body, or spirit. However, hair will be the victor.
